The John F. Benjamin Exceptional
Service Award

The John F. Benjamin Exceptional Service Award is awarded annually in memory of John F. Benjamin who dedicated six decades of service as a devoted Board member of both Michael Reese Hospital and Michael Reese Health Trust where he served as Chairman.

The award is meant to honor a person who exemplifies John’s philanthropic character, his generosity towards others, his intelligent approach to problem solving and his lifetime desire to make the world a healthier and more humane place.

Our 2025 Honoree

Amanda Pyron

Amanda Pyron is a seasoned advocate and leader in the fight against domestic and gender-based violence. She currently serves as the President & CEO of The Network: Advocating Against Domestic Violence, a collective of over 40 organizations dedicated to ending domestic and sexual violence in Illinois. In this role, she oversees strategic planning, policy development, fundraising, and program management to support survivors and advance systemic change.

With more than 25 years of experience in the public and nonprofit sectors, Pyron has provided direct services and housing support to survivors in Washington, D.C., developed national programs for crime victims at the U.S. Department of Justice, and led training and policy initiatives for a child welfare organization in Ireland. 

Beyond her executive role, Pyron is an active public voice on issues intersecting domestic violence and public policy. She has authored opinion pieces for outlets like the Chicago Sun-Times and Common Dreams, advocating for stronger protections for survivors, including legislation like Karina’s Bill, which aims to remove firearms from individuals under orders of protection.
