Incubation

We support bold ideas with the power to reshape health.

When we nurture great ideas, powerful things can happen.

What is Incubation?

“Incubation” simply means taking a new idea or program and giving it the necessary tools and support to grow and flourish.

In the nonprofit sector, the role of incubator is often played by larger, well-resourced institutions like Michael Reese that have the capacity to nurture young initiatives. The concept is similar to a business incubator.

Our Approach

We collaborate with visionary leaders to provide them with the tools, connections, and support needed to transform innovative ideas into meaningful, lasting change.

As an incubator, Michael Reese has the ability to support growing initiatives by providing:

Fiscal sponsorship.
Access to office space and meeting rooms.
Administrative and back-end support to reduce startup costs.
Opportunities for mentorship, training, and networking.
Support with fundraising pitches and presentations.

The incubation journey can look different based on each program’s purpose and goals: some may mature into independent organizations; others may cease operating once their mission is fulfilled.

Michael Reese’s grantmaking and advocacy tools can also be used to give our incubated initiatives a stronger pathway to growth and sustainability.

In 1915, the Michael Reese Hospital pioneered the use of infant incubators to help premature babies grow healthy and strong.

Today, as Michael Reese Health Trust, we are applying that same concept in a different way: by providing a space where emerging ideas and programs can effectively launch and grow their missions.
